1 – Bird FREEMAN taken at the James Wark’s Studio in Marion, OH, dated 1889, Bird appears to be in her teens or 20’s at the time
2 – Ella FREEMAN taken at the Bo Durtha Studio in Delaware, OH, in the 1880’s with Ella likely in her 20’s
3 – Charlie FREEMAN taken at the Bo Durtha Studio in Delaware, OH, in the 1880’s with Charlie likely in his 20’s at the time
Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding these FREEMAN Family members:
Charles “Charlie” Benjamin FREEMAN was b. 21 Oct 1859 in Marion Co., OH to parents Alvin Hanible or Hannibal or Hanible FREEMAN (1828-1878) and Louisa Melissa or Mellisa RUSH (1833-1873) or Leanora M. FURMAN (b. 1833). Charlie had three siblings, Emma Annetta FREEMAN GLASS (1855-1944) and Dora Etta FREEMAN REDD (1857-1942) and Sarah “Sally” FREEMAN (b. 1861). Indications are that there were two different mothers of the children, but it is not clear. Charlie married twice, first to Ella Belle or Bell REDD (1864-1923) on 4 Apr 1886 in Marion, OH and second to Mary “Mollie” Ellen LEWIS BADER (1859-1944) who he married on 6 Apr 1929 in Marion Co., OH.
Charlie and his first wife Ella had 7 children including Ima or Imo L.; Vera Elizabeth; Fred Court; Dora Fae or Fay; Lorin Redd; Fanna or Fannie Gertrude; Alvin Arthur “Doc”; and Harlie or Harley Martin FREEMAN, all born between 1887 and 1907. Ella Belle REDD was b. 23 Aug 1864 in Marion Co., OH to Philip Oliver REDD (1818-1884) and Elizabeth RUPP (1823-1893) who were married on 29 Jun 1843 in Marion Co., OH. Ella was one of 9 children born to this couple including James Knox; Minerva Emma; Margaret M.; Mary M.; Levi G.; Tabitha J.; Addison T. “Adam”; Arnetta Augusta; and Ella Belle REDD, all born between 1844 and 1864. Ella married Charles “Charlie” Benjamin FREEMAN (1859-1942) as noted above. Ella died 24 May 1923 in Marion, OH and is buried in the Marion Cemetery in Marion, OH.
I am not sure who Bird FREEMAN might be from this family, though I think it is possible that “Bird” is a nickname rather than her formal birth name, but I’m not certain.
